The first half of 2024 witnessed remarkable contributions to organ donation across Maharashtra. The Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) in Mumbai reported 24 donations, marking a significant step towards saving lives.

The ZTCC oversees the distribution of organs from deceased donors among hospitals, ensuring equitable access and efficient use of available organs.

Identifying and Consenting Donors

Out of 144 patients identified with brain stem death, 81 families consented to donate their loved ones’ organs. Brain stem death occurs when the brain stem stops functioning, making the individual legally dead. Upon certification of death, families can donate solid organs such as the heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, and more.
